Learning Support

The progress of students with Special Educational Needs is an important priority at Collegiate. Staff work together to ensure student needs are understood and well supported, both in and out of the classroom, to enable students to become confident, independent and successful learners.

At Collegiate, we are ambitious for our students and strive to enable everyone to reach their full potential. For the majority of our students, learning needs are met through high quality, differentiated teaching.

For some students, additional support is necessary to help them overcome barriers to learning and to enable them to achieve their aspirations.

Students are screened at regular intervals and, where required, receive active support through the Learning Support department. This could be through in-class Teaching Assistant support or 1:1/group support, with additional support lessons being offered outside of the core curriculum.

Regular reviews and parent meetings are an important feature of monitoring the progress of individual pupils, and parents are encouraged to work closely with the school.

Students with appropriate evidence of need are assessed for access arrangements as a matter of course, and an application is submitted to the Joint Council for Qualifications prior to public examinations.
